Social Studies 8th Grade
First Semester
I learned many things about the Lower East Side this semester. If I had not learnt about how the past was like in the L.E.S. in the past and see all those pictures that looks like a war scene as Marlis Momber had said, I would not think the area had at all been in such a state. I learned that there were arson, evictions, as well as drugs being extremely prevalent in the area that this place was even called the Drug Capital. But an interesting side contrasting to this darkness, I learned, was that despite this huge dilemma (which I learned was kind of caused by an oil embargo and inflation), there was this sense of community between the citizens. There was also rap music that started to come up. Another thing I learned in this semester was about gentrification which was the income of richer buildings/more middle class like apartments in efforts to make the state of which the area is in better. I also learned that immigrants is what makes up this community.
Second Semester
Going further back into history, I learned about the 19th century immigration, push-pull factors, the Progressive era, significant figures like Jacob A. Riis, monopolist John D. Rockefeller, another monopolist Andrew Carnegie, monopoly, horrible working conditions, and more.
Project: Photo Essay; an interview of an immigrant describing their experience of moving into the foreign United States from their native country. The project cannot be uploaded due to personal reasons and security.

Third Semester
After that, I learned about the Stock Market Crash that was caused, again by many contributing factors, but a major cause was due to speculation and excessive optimism on the stocks and the Great Depression.
Fourth Semester
I learned about World War II that was primarily triggered by the Nazi Germany that has changed its leader to the infamous Adolf Hitler. The U.S. joins the war after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After the attack, Japanese immigrants were discriminated further and were even relocated to internment camps. Ultimately, the war comes to a closure with the Allies obtaining another victory recently after U.S. bombs Japan with two atomic bombs causing humongous fatalities and radiation.
